The data analyzed below in this report are relevant for October 1 – December 31, 2022.
In this analysis, we were interested in discovering the most viral Romanian Facebook content related to a number of state actors and international organizations relevant for Romania: the EU, NATO, the US, Germany, France, the UK, Israel, Russia, China, Ukraine.
Our Center extracted data using CrowdTangle, a public insights tool owned and operated by Facebook.
Here are some of the findings:
- Compared to the 3rd trimester of 2022, the last 3 months of the year saw decreases or stagnation in the number of Facebook posts mentioning geopolitical actors, with the sole exception of NATO, which registered a slight increase.
- The debate around Romania’s access to the Schengen area was the dominant issue in the EU-related Facebook conversation during the last 3 months of 2022, and engagement rankings were partly dominated by populist and Eurosceptic voices.
