Summary

The recently concluded Sunbelt 2024 conference, organized by the International Network for Social Network Analysis, was a melting pot of intellectual exchanges, methodological diversity, and top-tier academic expertise in network analysis. Among the gathering of prestigious figures in network science, statistics, and political communication were notable experts like Albert-László Barabási, Steve Borgatti, Martin Everett, David Lazer, Itai Himelboim, and Tom Snijders.

CPD expert Dana Sultănescu and CPD research director Dan Sultănescu were among the presenters in this prestigious conference. They shared their research findings in a panel focused on the analysis of networks and textual data within digital spaces, that also contained papers focused on Italy, France and the US.

Their presentation spotlighted an in-depth analysis of the network structure of communicators and the narrative patterns spread online surrounding the Romanian farmer and transporter protests of January 2024. This topic was not only timely but also highly relevant given the populist elements interwoven into the social media conversations it spurred.

The conference served as a fertile ground for sharing findings, refining theories, and forging academic connections. It also underscored the CPD’s commitment to contributing cutting-edge research at high-level academic events.
