Summary
- The war in Ukraine and the European Football Championship were landmark events of 2024 that generated mentions and visibility for most of the actors included in the analysis. Additionally, electoral moments (USA, France, EU), the conflict in the Middle East (Israel, USA, United Kingdom), and specific events such as the Schengen expansion, the referendum in Moldova (relevant as mentions about the EU), or the succession at the NATO leadership also played a significant role.
- The ranking of mentions in 2024 is dominated by Ukraine, followed by the USA. The EU ranks third, with Russia close behind. Essentially, these are the main international actors (among those monitored) mentioned in the Romanian online space in 2024.
- Ukraine is also in the first position in the rankings for views (impact of mentions), followed by Russia and the USA. Although a large number of mentions generally generates a significant impact, the two variables are not always directly correlated (they do not automatically condition each other).
- Half of the considered actors were mentioned primarily in online media. Numerically speaking, online media generated the most mentions about the EU, Germany, and the United Kingdom, while Facebook led in mentions about NATO and France. However, in all these cases, the two types of sources are very close, with an almost equal number of mentions. In terms of the impact of mentions, online media is by far the dominant source, with significantly higher values compared to Facebook for all the actors included in the analysis.
