The data analyzed in this report is relevant for April 1 – June 30, 2022.
In this analysis, we were interested in discovering the most viral Romanian Facebook content related to a number of state actors and international organizations relevant for Romania: the EU, NATO, the US, Germany, France, the UK, Israel, Russia, China, Ukraine.
Our Center extracted data using CrowdTangle, a public insights tool owned and operated by Facebook.
Here are some of the findings:
- After the exponential increase in mentions for NATO and Russia registered during the previous 3-month period, in the context of the anticipation of conflict and then of the actual invasion, the second trimester of 2022 brought a gradual loss of interest for the Ukraine war.
- New populist voices and alternative platforms came to the forefront with messages expressing criticism and skepticism towards Romania’s involvement in the war and Ukraine’s legitimacy in general.
